Fathers and Princesses

Fathers Day is fast approaching. A perfect gift is the gift of time. It could be doing whatever your father likes to do, fishing or watching television or it could be helping him do some of the things he needs to do and has put off.

How about surprising Dad with a yard or two of garden mulch or hemlock bark and help him spread it around the garden? Of course, he may prefer to just watch you do it by yourself. You know your Dad and take your chances which way hell go. Either way, youll be spending time with him and the more siblings you have to help, the better!

A less strenuous idea would be putting in a plant whose name would have some significance to the two of you. Fathers often have endearing names for their children. I wont tell you what mine was but it referred to a time when I was much smaller. If you are Daddys little girl, his princess, his lamb or bunny, we have the plant for you. It will stay in his garden long after the day and be a reminder of the love you share.

Rosa Daddy's Little Girl

Daddys Little Girl is a miniature rose which is well behaved in the garden with a tidy compact growth but shows off with petite pink buds. Does that sound like you; well behaved but at times a bit of a show off?

We have yellow leafed hydrangeas. One has a sweet name, Little Honey while the other is a bit tangier, Lemon Daddy. Another hydrangea with a name your father might use is Little Lamb.

If your Dad calls you his Little Gem, we have a Norway spruce and a southern magnolia with the same name. How about a spiraea for Daddys Little Princess or a grass for his Little Bunny? If these dont sound like you, maybe a daylily with the name Little Wart would fit the bill!

Carruth Dad

Farmington Gardens has other Fathers Day gift ideas for you; Classic tools or maybe a Pop-Up garden bin that can be used to gather weeds to take to the composter and then folded down again for easy storage. Carruth has a great piece of wall art that celebrates your dads skills. You can never go wrong with that symbol of strength and agility for the inner warrior of a gardener, a Hori hori knife.

Whatever you choose to do, enjoy your celebration!
