Inspiration can come from both nursery staff and plants around the nursery. Yes, they both give me many ideas for my garden.
I had two very unique hanging globes that I wanted to use. I needed both liners and plants. One globe is very large while the other is small. The coco liners I have seen are neither big enough nor small enough. I spent some time talking with one of our customer service people about how to line the pot. She mentioned burlap. It got me to thinking about materials that I already had at home. I have a liner; its just not the right shape. I will cut it to size. Moss also can be molded into any form. Plant shopping was next on the list. Not that I dont have enough plants already, but a plant addict cannot get enough plants!Rather than going a direct route, I wandered through the nursery. I came upon one of the plants that intrigue me, a gunnera. For some reason, this time, when I walked past the plant, the proper place for it in my yard popped into my head. This is a very large plant that likes water and will do fine in part shade to shade. I have an ideal place for a gunnera but had never thought of it until the 100th time I walked by admiring the plant.
Another thing roaming a nursery can do is to help find color for the garden. A friend of mine suggested that, If you want color in your garden year round, then go each month to the nursery and see what is blooming. Those are the plants to put into your garden for year round blooms.
Thestaff at the Farmington Gardens are all very experienced and love to come up with creative ideas to solve problems. Come, wander, and ask for help! We are here for you.
